Ex-PM Ghulam Mustafa Jatoi passes away

LAHORE: Former caretaker prime minister Ghulam Mustafa Jatoi passed away at the St Mary’s Hospital in London after a prolonged illness, a private TV channel reported on Friday.

He was 78. Jatoi was born on August 14, 1931 in Sindh, and served as the caretaker prime minister for 3 months, between August 6, 1990 and November 6, 1990.

Jatoi joined the Pakistan People’s Party in 1973 and was appointed Sindh chief minister the same year. He also founded the Islami Jamhoori Ittehad (IJI) in 1988. The next year, he was elected to the National Assembly in by-elections from Kot Addu and was subsequently elected leader of the opposition. daily times monitor
